Put on your best Disney costumes and running shoes, because the game season is about to return to the most magical place on earth. After only hosting virtual competitions for more than a year, Walt Disney World will begin its offline racing season from 2021-2022 this fall.
This season will consist of four race weekends, starting from November 4-7, 2021, which has been a popular half-marathon weekend of Disney’s Food and Wine. This year’s theme is Wickedly Delicious, celebrating everyone’s favorite villain, from Ursula to Jafar. Runners can choose to participate in 5K, 10K, half marathon and Disney two challenges (10K and half marathon). After the competition, participants can also use Epcot exclusively after get off work (included in their registration fee for the competition) to enjoy the International Food and Wine Festival.
Although part of the fun of the runDisney season is running in theme parks with live music, DJs and even some Disney characters cheering you on along the way, Walt Disney World will continue to provide virtual competitions for those who have not yet participated and feel comfortable with large face-to-face events.
The next weekend of the season will be the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend from January 5th to 9th, 2022. The theme is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World. Next year, the theme park will host another fan favorite event: Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend, celebrating the courage and kindness inspired by some of the favorite Disney princesses.
The race weekend will be held from February 24th to 27th, 2022.
The runDisney competition season will end with Disney Spring Surprise Weekend from March 31 to April 3, 2022. This will be a new feature of the runDisney competition season. Every year, runners will be challenged with new and evolving competition themes and distances.
Other new elements this season and beyond will include Disney Princess Sunrise Yoga, which will invite runners to participate in a sunrise yoga class on the first morning of the race weekend. The best part? That class will be held in front of Cinderella’s castle.
Children participating in these race weekends will also participate. Run Disney Kids Races is now renamed runDisney Kids Adventures, focusing on children's health, fitness and fun.
